03 Nov We practise what we preach!
When working with organisations and individuals we often advise on ways that they can engage in more physical activity.
We understand advising someone to participate in more physical activity is not always as black and white as it may seem. We all have busy lives with plenty going on, from busy jobs with long commutes to carting the kids round to various activities or simply carrying out the weekly shop.
Therefore, engaging in more physical activity is often about removing barriers and implementing coping strategies. Sometimes it’s about getting 20 minutes here or an hour there and there are many ways this could be done. Things could include getting off the bus a stop earlier and walking the rest of the way, using the stairs rather than a lift, joining in one of the kids weekend activities etc.
However, we spend large chunks of our lives at work so it makes sense to bring activities to the employees. All business owners have a responsibility for their employee’s health and welfare. Looking after employees not only helps to make them healthier which reduces absenteeism but also improves employee morale and productivity. Therefore, we are finding more and more organisations providing exercise at work for their employees, from classes in yoga, spinning and HIIT training to walking / running clubs or even onsite gyms.
At Annurca we are no different!
We have a fantastic onsite gym which is freely available to all employees when working from the office as well as regular classes. For those who regularly work away wherever possible we try and book hotels with gyms so they’re not missing out.
The benefits have been immeasurable and there’s not doubt that we wouldn’t have it any other way. We believe that if we put our employees first they will return the favour through performance alone!
“As a single parent I find it hard fitting in any exercise before or after work. In the mornings I have the kids to drop off before coming in to the office, and when I finish work it’s straight off to pick them up again.
I’ve been wanting to take better care of myself for a long time but didn’t know how. The onsite gym has allowed me to get some exercise at lunchtime and now I come into work with a real spring in my step knowing this is one less thing to worry about. Our regular health assessments have shown I’m losing weight and getting healthier and I also feel that this has left me so much more focused in the afternoons. Now I’m managing my workloads much better which has reduced my stress levels significantly. I couldn’t see myself ever working at a business without a gym again. I love it!”
